In honour of Dr Wee Kim Wee — Singapore’s fourth President and beloved “People’s President” — the Wee Kim Wee Heritage Fund supports the legacy of his advocacy for cross-cultural dialogue, inclusivity, and civic engagement. Established by SMU’s Wee Kim Wee Centre, the Fund safeguards Dr and Mrs Wee’s legacy and values through several key initiatives:

Preservation of the Wee Kim Wee Room

The Heritage Fund ensures ongoing upkeep of the replica of “Istana Kechil” on SMU’s campus — a meticulously reconstructed office, lounge, and dining space displaying their photographs, furnishings, and memorabilia entrusted by their family.

Support for Education and Dialogue

Gifts to the Fund help deliver programmes and events hosted by the Wee Kim Wee Centre, promoting cross-cultural and interdisciplinary discourse—core values the late President exemplified.

Scholarships and Student Grants

The Fund also supports students through scholarships with an emphasis on financial need, fostering leadership grounded in the values of openness, diversity, and empathy — hallmarks of Dr Wee’s public life.
