The College of Integrative Studies nurtures a new generation of students who take learning in their own hands. CIS students can take courses across 7 SMU Schools and design a major that capitalises on their unique combinations of talent and aptitude.
A microcosm of a university, the CIS faculty consists of over three dozen professors of anthropology, communication, computer science, economics, environmental history, geography, history, law, literature, marketing, music, philosophy, religion, urban climate, urban studies, and urban informatics. Course offerings by faculty include "AI and Humanity," "Asia and World Literature: Beyond Orientalism," "Climate Change: Global and Local Solutions," "Screening Asia: History, Society and Politics in Film."
The future world we are already is a hyphenated one, where industries and domains connect in new and unpredictable ways. CIS graduates rise to this challenge. They have designed Individualised Majors in Artificial Intelligence and Finance, Technology for Cultural Development and Sustainable Business and Asian Culture. They are adept at moving across functions and disciplines and synthesizing different bodies of knowledge. Born out of a radically new approach to learning, our graduates are well-placed to ride waves of disruption and opportunity generated by AI, climate change, and the attendant social and economic reconfigurations that will follow.
