A pair of oil paintings of Balinese women, purchased by Mr Wee in Jakarta, Indonesia on Sunday, May 2 1966 after he had interviewed Lieutenant-General Soharto, then the “strongman” of Indonesia. Soharto had granted him an exclusive interview and announced Indonesia’s intension to end “Confrontasi” with Malaysia. The pair of paintings were purchased to commemorate the event and the world scoop Mr Wee achieved.

Painted by Mr Frank Quinn, an English artist whose son (a coffee/cocoa planter in Papua New Guinea) was Mr Wee's friend. Mr Quinn had painted Mr Wee in the early 1950s as a United Press Associations journalist, against the backdrop of an English pub and houses. The painting was done referencing a passport photo of Mr Wee.
