A TRIBUTE TO THE LATE DR WEE KIM WEE
INHERITING A LEGACY
The late Dr. Wee Kim Wee, hailed as the “People’s President”, was a man who could command the respect of, and also be at ease with, people from diverse backgrounds. Imbued with a spirit of generosity, Dr. Wee demonstrated a desire to give back to society what he had received from it, his heart for service being rooted in his empathy for his fellow humans. In 2015, we celebrated his 100th birthday- and the life of an exemplary man.
BEARING THE TORCH
Initially named the Centre for Cross-Cultural Studies, the Centre was later renamed after Dr. Wee Kim Wee – a man who demonstrated a cross-cultural sensitivity in both his private and professional life that is reflected in the Centre’s mission to promote a “multi-cultural consciousness”. The Centre has established a series of regular talks and seminars promoting intercultural exchange, providing an open space for critical dialogue. Honouring Dr. Wee’s legacy of public service, the Wee Kim Wee Centre is proud to have been able to serve the community since 2000.
ILLUMINATING THE FUTURE: A CENTRE FOR DIALOGUE IN THE HEART OF A CREATIVE DISTRICT
Looking ahead, the Wee Kim Wee Centre sees itself as a beacon for dynamic intercultural engagement where ideas can flourish. As our world becomes increasingly interconnected, it is critical to have open, deep and honest discussions about balancing our different identities with our roles and responsibilities as global citizens. The Centre aims to leverage on our location in a vibrant and dynamic artistic neighbourhood, becoming a centre for dialogue in the heart of a creative district.
