 | Ms. May Loh is Senior Advisor with the Albright Stonebridge Group and Conservation International. She focuses on providing strategic advice to decision-makers on issues of corporate governance, public policy, and sustainability, enabling them to weigh the factors that make for maximum impact. With a vision to see capital used for purposeful and lasting social change, May serves on various boards including the Board of Trustees of the Singapore University of Technology and Design, the Securities Investors Association, and the Singapore Government's Charity Council sub-committee tasked with reviewing the Charity Transparency Framework. She is Vice-Chair of the Helping Hand, a halfway house registered as an Institution of Public Character. |
Jeremy Lim
 | Associate Prof Jeremy Lim is CEO of AMILI, the region’s first microbiome science company. He brings diverse and unique perspectives to the Lecture Series, having spent substantial time in public and private healthcare across Asia as well as in policy advisory roles with Singapore's Ministry of Health, the World Bank and the World Health Organization. Outside academia, Jeremy serves on the boards of various for-profit and not-for-profit organizations in different aspects of healthcare including migrant worker health, end of life care and digital health interventions. He trained in surgery and public health, attaining post-graduate qualifications in both from the UK and US. |
Kevin Jung
 | Kevin Jung is the founder and CEO of Signal Hill Private Limited, a registered fund management company based in Singapore. Signal Hill invests across three asset classes: Public equities (both directly and through external fund managers; lower-middle market private equity (US only); and global venture capital (both directly and through external fund managers). Before establishing Signal Hill in 2019, Kevin was an investment analyst at Prince Street Capital, a $2.5B (USD) emerging- and frontier-markets focused investment management firm. At Prince Street, Kevin led investment research coverage for sub-Saharan Africa, South Korea and the global energy sector. While at Prince Street, Kevin was a co-founder of Battery Road Digital Holdings, a private investment holding company established by member of Prince Street’s investment team, that made early-stage growth equity investments globally. Prior to Prince Street, Kevin was a Principal at Promontory Financial Group, which was a boutique financial services advisory firm founded by Eugene Ludwig, Comptroller of the Currency under President Clinton and Alan Blinder, former Vice-Chairman of the Federal Reserve (under Alan Greenspan). At Promontory, Kevin helped establish Promontory’s advisory practice in Africa where he advised central banks, ministries of finance and financial institutions. At Promontory, Kevin advised Pope Francis and the Vatican on the restructuring of the Vatican Bank and the creation of a new sovereign wealth fund. Kevin earned a B.A. from Boston College (Theology) and was awarded the Copithorne Scholarship to Harvard University for a graduate degree. |
Governance and Ethics for Startups and Social Enterprises
May will share insights from her work on boards and with start-ups, supported from her experience teaching ‘Scaling Startups & Social Enterprises Through Governance’. Aside from seeking to equip aspiring social entrepreneurs with essential governance tools for scaling and retaining impact, this course explores what investors look for in how start-ups deal with and mitigate risks. In enforcing key tenets of governance and sustainability, questions of corporate culture ultimately reveal whether and how the business might be operating ‘for good’. Covid-19 has made it critical for high-growth ventures and socially oriented ventures to understand their role in the economy, as they embrace public funded incentives to contribute meaningfully to the country’s post-pandemic new normal.

In this sharing, Jeremy Lim will share his experiences as a start-up investor and advisor, and now start-up founder himself of AMILI, the region’s first microbiome science company. In particular, he will examine why there have been a number of high profile scandals in the start-up ecosystem and discuss what can be done to reduce if not avoid such ethical lapses.
